Everyday discoveries with English

Songs, games and stories accompany children as they encounter English. At Lavanta, small moments bring language experiences into everyday life.

Joining curiosity at home

Enjoying a chosen song or book together offers a different experience from asking how many words a child has learned. Returning to the same book or simply listening can also be meaningful.

Use the English Programme page to begin a conversation with the school about suitable content and current practice. This article does not promise a language outcome or assess development.

Language and play

Meaningful encounters before word lists

Joining a song’s actions, pointing to a picture-book character or choosing an object in a game connects language with what a child is doing.

The aim is not immediate repetition of every word. Listening, watching and choosing to participate are different ways to remain part of the experience.

An illustrative example

Three opportunities within a song

01

Listen together

Make room for rhythm and repetition without expecting immediate singing.

02

Join the actions

A gesture or simple role play can connect sound and meaning. Participation is a shared experience, not a test.

03

Meet a phrase again

A familiar phrase in another game gains a new context. Repetition can create familiarity rather than mechanical memorisation.
